playing protoman mode now.
Some differences- More damage more knockback Proto coil and jet instead of rush (P. Jet looks like a shield but seems a bit slower) Charging attacks and looks of it is more like MM4 Sliding. P. Shield only works while jumping
I'll post more after fighting some bosses.
Get weapon screen-Has back towards you until weapon color changes shows up.
Stage select:Instead of eyes following the cursor, it has protoman's sunglasses shine.

Courtesy of Mal, I finally got a chance to play MM9. Unfortunately, I have yet to beat it due to myriad interruptions while playing through the Wily stages. Having to start over all the time... *grumblemutters* It's gotten to the point where I can Buster run the first two fortress bosses with minimal difficulty and I'm starting to get the hang of the third.
I was so close to beating what I assume to be final Wily... and I hadn't even picked up a single E-tank along the way. I got the M-tank from Wily Fortress 3 multiple times over, broke down and used it... then remembered I have the worst luck when it comes to timing the use of big items such as M-tanks. And to think... I could have gotten the No Coffee Break challenge completed. -_-
It may just be rust on my part or just inexperience at a new game, but MM9 seems considerably harder than the other 8-bit style MMClassic games, even MM1.

Pyro's random opinion on the Robot master weapons!
M. Bazooka: The least handy of all IMO, but still handy against large enemies for a quick kill. Also uses up very little energy per shot.
B. Bomb: I love this one, a black hole that sucks... in all enemies it can suck in. So handy in so many situations.
T. Blow: If you have alot of enemies on one screen, blow them away. Takes up quite a bit of energy though.
P. Ball: Nearly as handy as M. Bazooka, but it can be handy if you know when and how to use it.
H. Chaser: Getting items at difficult spots easily ftw. It's the bee's knees *gets shot*
C. Shot: This is more handy then you think, making an easy step on spot or just turning an enemy in a block is lolawesome.
L. Trident: Little energy usage and perfect if your enemy has a shield (or is a moving one).
J. Satellite: A shield killing all small enemies and with little energy (at least IMO) just rocks.
And so my opinion on the weapons.

If anyone's curious, there are only four E-Tanks and one M-tank lying around throughout the entire game. These are what Proto Man kinda has to rely on due to no shop.
Plug Man: At the end of the disappearing block section, up at the top. Tornado Man: First rainy screen, use the Coil to jump off to the left into the dark cloud and grab it. Wily Stage 1: Above the Magma beams of death, left ladder. Wily Stage 2: Through the spiked hallway in underwater area. Wily Stage 3: During second anti-gravity area, near the end.

I think one reason it might be harder is because the other eight have been around longer. We might be so used to doing the old sections of Wily's many castles, we don't even have to think about them anymore. Also, I say MM2 is the hardest, the only boss I ever use the pause trick on is Yellow Devil and no one else.

Meet Fake Man. The boss of the special DLC stage.

...That's not the ONLY boss, though.
Not only does the stage contain EVERY SINGLE MID-BOSS FROM THE MAIN GAME (and I DO mean all of them), it even has the Wily Stage 2 boss right in the middle of it. >.>
BTW, Fake Man's weakness appears to be Jewel Satellite. I figured that out right before dying to it. T_T

DLC stage? Sorry if I'm out of the loop, but what is that exactally? A bonus stage you have to pay extra to download.

Yay I am finally going to get points in order to get this game!
Pretty late I know but whatever. I will probably get the downloadable content too.

I defeated all 8 Robot masters. And Wily STage are a real pain in the butt, I tell ya. I can barely beat Wily stage 1, and keep dying in the Underwater part of Wily stage 2. And after some practice with all Weapons, I can safely say my favourite is Jewel Sattelite

I'm much more pleased with this week's DLC rather than last, even if we are paying for a Difficulty Setting. Still, I'll probably get the two difficulties and the Special Stage. Already have Endless, but no Proto Man mode - I really just don't find it all that worthwhile, personally.
