Inquiry: a) - Is there a limit to how much RAM you give a computer to use - depending on the specifications of certain other pieces of hardware, or is it just determined on how much you can cram into the available slots?
b) - Seeing as my computer is pretty damn old, I'd need to insert a USB 2.0 card into my compy to make it recognize a few things (i.e.: Dazzle external capture devices). Would it just be wiser to look into buying said device alongside a more modern computer, or just to upgrade my existing model?

a. While there isn't necessarily a limit, how well that RAM will be put to use depends on the rest of the computer (i.e., slow computer + lots of RAM = still not running so well).
b. If we're talking desktops here, and your computer is so old that it doesn't have any USB ports, then I have to strongly suggest getting a new one. If it's a laptop, however, it depends on what ports/slots it does have.

a) I don't think that many programs will use more than 2 GB RAM, and even less of them are using more than 4.

Honnestly? get a better PC. You can get some awesome PCs for the price of a PS3 (around 400 to 500$)

Anyways, I honestly have nothing to say that has not been said already. Though I seriously think it should be better for you to buy a new PC, if your comp is 2003 or older. Otherwise, an upgrade may do just fine, if it has TEH PORTZ you need for your technological paraphernalia.

The latter point is a given, of course. :P But no limit? Alright. b. If it's a laptop, however, it depends on what ports/slots it does have. It has USB Ports, just not USB 2.0 ports, necessary for running more modern USB peripherals. And thanks for your input, everyone. I'm most likely heading for a gaming PC, so that I wouldn't need to inject it with a better graphics card, or more RAM. Comes with XP Professional, as well. If need be, I'll post another thread, or someone else can continue this 'series'.Anyhow, decision has been reached. I just need to confirm it with my father, and make the most cost-effective choice.
