True: There are virii which cannot be deleted by software. However, every virus can be deleted by formatting your harddrive or using a new one. As dangerous virii can be for the data on your harddrive, they cannot touch the hardware itself.

As dangerous virii can be for the data on your harddrive, they cannot touch the hardware itself. You are right there, however formatting your hardrive gets rid of other important things such as sound and files you have put on your computer since you got it. The only thing it can't delete is the main program or "core" program of the computer.

Thanks for telling a computer engineer what formatting does.

If you really need all your programs back, then use a spysweeper program to detect which ones are infected. Get rid of those, sign up for a file hosting website, zip and archive all of crucial and hard-to-find programs - or set them to CD / DVD, then redownload / reinstall.
But that's only if you need to have everything back within a few days of formatting the hard-drive.
EDIT: "Shadow of the virus?" XD

From my understanding, the pop-up message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" means that a drive(r)'s or modem's memory is inadequate to run your PC.
Run a sweep and search for which driver or modem doesn't want to run due to lack of memory. You'll have to erase all possible files from your PC and delete all recent back-up files (say about 2-3 months old copies) to avoid a possible re-infection.
Though, we never got this far into malware for me to give you full details or to give you the exact procedure, but that's the procedure in a nutshell. Though, I think Fay and the others already explained it thus far.
And as for the virus scanners, I agree with Fay on the three, exception for McAfee since I have yet to hear of it.
AVG & AntiVir are awesome, though AntiVir requires an update almost every day and causes some major lag and memory issues sometimes.
I'm not sure if AVG auto-updates by default, but from my experience, it won't always update automatically. It's updates are wicked fast, though, unlike AntiVir's.
AND! If I can recall my first-year lessons in Computer Technology, a Trojan is like a virus. Only difference is that it is activated by the owner and it isn't activated remotely. Kinda like a Rick-Roll. That means, you can control its reproduction by deleting the source files. Correction, plz.
Ohh... and before I forget, you'd best be rid of LimeWire. It's not all as safe as they claim. That's also where most virii, trojans, worms and spyware spread from. Even if you have the pro-version, just stop the subscription and delete it. Though, if the saved files don't cause you any trouble, I see no reason in getting rid of them.

I'm not sure if AVG auto-updates by default, but from my experience, it won't always update automatically. Just a note on that. It does do automatic updates if you're using the pay version. With the free version, you have to actually tell it to update, should there be an update available. And yeah, AVG is a pretty good virus/spyware scanner.

I must be old-fashioned, and I'm not sure if it worked, but all I did was have my anit-virus program show me what files actually were viruses. Then, I used the search function on the Start menu and manually deleted them. Okay... I sent them to the Recycle Bin, then I emptied that. If you feel like doing that, it made my computer seem a lot faster.
Feel free to contradict.

Three things:
- I KNOW Norton doesn't help! It's not my fault my Dad's fat lazy and doesn't know about Computers (Nor PC world either). Which means he thinks Norton 360 is the best and that letting somebody hack into your computer to fix it is helpful. Also he'll know if I replace Norton because the icon will have disappeared, he'll also think the new anti-virus software is a virus and then reinstall Norton. So I'm pretty much screwed here.
- How did you know my PC has limewire installed, Bardpado? (I didn't install it.)
- Replacing the Harddrive is difficult as I'd need to get my hands on the money, which will be a problem because of the current "credit crunch crisis" in England and that I'm only 14 years old!

WAIT WHAT! If your 14 the credit crunch won't affect you >_> idiot.
Anyway the one good thing about Norton is that we get free access to symantec control. They are some of the best when it comes to fixing computers.

Necropost of Validity! Ok everyone, thanks to the technitians at my school I've managed to find some more useful information (a google of the error name, why didn't I think of that?!):
Hope I can get this problem sorted soon... Also PAGE_ERROR_IN_NONE_PAGED_AREA, I think it's a similar problem.

Ok everyone, thanks to the technitians at my school I've managed to find some more useful information (a google of the error name, why didn't I think of that?!): ......Oh, my... Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager. Go through each item on your system and make sure there are no conflicts listed under the Resources tab for each one (some won't have that tab available, in which case you can ignore it). Oh, and make note of the highest number you see for "IRQ". ^That's for if you're using Windows.

I've checked around half and so far there are no conflicts.
The highest IRQ number is 23, 3 different devices have this.
EDIT: I've finished the check, thee are no conflicts.
