Ever wonder why they named the famous necktie-wearing monkey Donkey Kong? Wonder how in the world the original 150 Pokémon came to be? Pondered why in the world we in the States never experienced the first original Fire Emblem game? These questions, and more, shall be answered on this thread. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to discover the hidden histories and origins of some of the greatest games of all time. Please no Wikipedia entries. Now why am I doing this? All of us have played video games before, but very few, including myself, ask: "Who comes up with this stuff?" Ask yourself the next time you're playing Zelda that. Another reason, is because I just saw the 13 movies, in order, detailing Final Fantasy for the first time. I give you all, The Final Fantasy Retrospective. www.gametrailers.com/game/4831.html

Actually, I was planning myself to do something similar, articles about the origins of certain game characters. Actually I wanted to first do Luigi from Mario series.
And that would've been an article for applying at a game magazine, as well. ^^

I still say that this is a better reference for the FF origin: www.ffcompendium.comNo one can possibly beat that with name origins and background analogies for each/almost all possible character for each possible game (Duno about 11, but yeah, pretty much all of the!).

How did Kingdom Hearts come about? A Square person and a Disney person got on the same elevator and started swapping ideas. Yup.

Why did they only make a japanese version of Boktai 3 and mmbn 4.5???

Boktai sales in the US & in Europe weren't as good as they were in Japan, thus the series ender side-quest in MMBN6 was removed.
For MMBN 4.5, I believe they said that the battle system wouldn't take off as much since it plays like the anime and not like other MMBN games.

About the order of Zelda Games... I don't believe in the split storyline idea. Here's MY belief in order. Mind you, I've never played the GBA version of Four Swords.
1: I agree with them on this. Minish Cap has no choice but to come first. This Link does not appear in another Zelda game.
2: Legend of Zelda. First mention of Ganon. He was the one who stole the Triforce of Power. This also came second, because the Triforce of Courage wasn't mentioned until Zelda II.
3: Zelda II: Adventure of Link... Well, duh.
4: A link to the past. Takes place several decades after Zelda II. Seeing as the Pink-haired link, (clearly dyed, you'll see why later) never even knew Zelda even existed, cannot be the same one from the series released in the 80's. Also, Link from the previous series was a homeless hunter boy, if I read correctly. Impa fled Hyrule Castle to by mere coincidence, run into Link. The Link in ALTTP is living with his Uncle.
5: Link's Awakening. Went out to sea, after a trip he took a trip away from Hyrule. (See above--Pink haired link. Hair gets wet, no longer dyed.) He gets caught up in a storm, and his raft is crashed. At the end, the island the game takes place on, disappears. It's too far to swim, his boat is crashed, probably starves to death out at sea.
6: The best in the series, Ocarina of Time. The game that also had the biggest impact on the series as well, Link lives his life as a Kokiri, obviously younger than the previous Links. Meets Zelda for the first time. This is where the split timeline started in the retrospective, but I said before, no believe.
7: Majora's mask. It can't be the same Link as in Link's awakening, because Link went to Termina on HORSEBACK. Not BOAT. Umm, yeah. Link disappears from Hyrule, never to show up again. Also, they mention a war that goes on, because of Link telling the King of Hyrule about his kingdom's impending doom. That's a paradox, because the good King new nothing of this in the timeline. If Link actually HAD told the King about it, then Hyrule would have been more prepared and probably would win the war. BUT. Here's the twist. If he told the King about this, then Young Link never would have needed to pull the Master Sword, Ganon would never get the Triforce of Power, and Ganon would have lost the war. Therefore, the future would never have happened, and the Hero of Time legend never would have been passed on.
8: This is the complicated one. The oracle games, which technically happen at the same time, (And oddly enough, Impa is in the world it takes place in.) so I'm putting them both in the number 8 slot. Depends on which one you play first.
9: Four Swords. Never played it, but I know it takes place before Four Swords Adventures, and Vaati was sealed away by Link.
10: Four Swords Adventures: The Four-Sword, (or pikkori, can't spell) Sealed Vaati. But, (And the Hyrulian king knows nothing of this.) Ganon escaped the Evil realm and got the Trident. It's a different trident, however. Because Ganon uses it in ALTTP. Defeat Ganon, and we got him sealed away once more.
11: Wind Waker. After Hyrule was flooded by Ganon escaping, AGAIN, we follow the story. At the end, when Hyrule is washed away, Link and Tetra/Zelda resurface.
12: Phantom Hourglass... Well, duh.
13: Twilight Princess: Now this is the debatable part. Some say that it takes place BEFORE Wind Waker. I say AFTER. Because even though Hyrule is at the bottom of the sea and being eaten away by the earth, you really have to pay attention to the little things in Wind Waker. We still have Royal blood in the great sea. But it's just a bunch of islands! How did they all come together? Hmm... Oh wait! There is a way! Think back to after you went to the lost woods in Forest Haven. How the Koroks go to plant those trees? Yup. That's why the map of Hyrule in TP is so different than it was before. The land every year would expand, little by little. Until it was one big landmass again. Deku Tree is also MIA, because he said himself in WW, he's dying.
There's my viewpoint in this whole mess that we call Zelda.

OoT is far from being the best IMO. In fact it's the most overrated of the series (Much like VII if for FF) A lot of people (of course not as much as those OoT fans) agrees that A link to the past is, in fact, the best. ALttP is the one that started most of the sequels's ''traditions'' -An actual Storyline -Upgradable items -the Heart piece system -(You might find that one stupid but...) The bottles system -The fact that you have to complete 3 dungeon to get the master sword (Only apply to Zelda games that feature the master sword) And the fact that ALttP has the most dungeon in the series. 11!!!! Oh and I think Gannon has more variety in his attacks than in OoT, making ALttP's Gannon far more fun to defeat >_> Oh well, my opinion have to meaning I guess >_>

When do you think Twilight Princess came in? Before or after Wind Waker? (Kenzy thinks it's before.)

I think after, because it was also on the Wii and Wind Waker wasn't, or was it?

Not like that.... He means in the LOZ timeline. I think that TP is a sequel to Majora's Mask/Ocarina, as characters in TP have the same beliefs as in OOT and MM, while in WW they have completely different beliefs, not to mention the whole "Hyrule is flodded over" thing.... Though, in WW, the two previous sages had very similar names to OOT people. It's just another mystery....

If you guys think the timeline for the LoZ series is complicated, try figuring out the timeline for the FF series and all it's spin-offs and branch games, then you'll have a major headache.

If you guys think the timeline for the LoZ series is complicated, try figuring out the timeline for the FF series and all it's spin-offs and branch games, then you'll have a major headache. With the clear exception of 10 and 10-2, all of them are in their own individual universes. Problem solved. ...Seriously, how else would you explain the destruction and sudden revival of the crystals?
